Story’s Rainy Day Letter (Hope in an Envelope 2)

Story’s letter is so short, so sweet, and so wise. I am grateful to be sharing it with you all.

If you too are in recovery from PPD, I invite you to write your own Rainy Day Letter. Print it and read it when you need it. Setbacks, those bastards, are inevitable, yet their severity and frequency will drop over time; Rainy Days Letters help this happen faster. So next time you are feeling “totally yourself”, save some of that for a rainy day.

As a tech enthusiast, it was well worth it.Dearest self,
(May I call you dearest?  even if I haven’t always treated you that way?)

I know you don’t think it’s true, but you are getting better.

You are writing.  You are teaching.  You are baking again.  You are doing all the things that you love, all the things that make you feel like you.  And you can’t do it every day.  You are still tired. You get overwhelmed sometimes.  But that doesn’t mean you aren’t moving forward.  That doesn’t mean you aren’t you again.  It’s not just hard for you.  It’s HARD.  And you are doing really well, I promise.

And you are doing things you never thought you could do.  You are making friends, you are reaching out.  You belong.  Give yourself credit for that, sweets.  It’s not something that happened to you.  It’s something that you’ve done, and you should be proud.  And yes, it’s still hard, but that’s all the more reason to be proud of it.

Part of you is still dark, and really always has been, and may always be a little bit, but really that’s okay.  What makes you dark is also deep and gentle and beautiful.  It makes you the person you are.

You don’t need to be cheerful and funny and cute all the time.  No one expects that of you.  You just need to be you.  I know you want to be happy, and you deserve to be happy, but it isn’t a failure if sometimes you’re sad.  It’s part of life and it’s reasonable.  Expecting yourself to be happy every moment isn’t fair.  Be kind, my love.  Try not to ask things of yourself that you wouldn’t expect from anyone else.

And the things you are reaching for?  Peace and Purpose.  They are worthy, they are good, and they are closer than you think.  They are getting closer every day.

With all the love in the world,

Story3girl

Talk to Story, talk to me, talk to you.
Tell Story what parts of her letter touched you.
Tell me: what do you need to hear when you are down?

Tell you: what do you love about you most? How can that help you feel better when you are in a slump?

You are welcome to share your rainy day letter with me, and if you wish, I would be honored to share it here on the blog.
