Special #PPDSpeakEasy comfort camp

WTF world? Why so much pain? Too many people I love, most of them mothers, especially #ppdchat moms, are having a particularly hard time this week.

I don’t usually use the F word here, not even as a letter. But something is going on. Is Mercury in retrograde? Are there storms on the sun? This isn’t funny. Seriously, God, Universe, Lucky Stars, and anything else that matters out there, enough with the pain, can we have some comfort please?

The love and support which have been flying around the twitterland with the #ppdchat hashtag today go to the moon and back, but what I really want is for someone to beam us up to #ppdchat comfort camp, where we could hug each other, roast marshmallows together by the fire, give each other foot massages, and sing together. Some would sing on key, some off, all of us raising our voices together, practically howling at the moon, as we invoke community and the power of love to win over pain.

But until the day when we can ask Scottie to beam all of us up and be together, the next best thing is to hear each other’s voices. So while I was reading this amazing post on Erica’s Blog I had an idea:

You available to talk tomorrow (by the time you read this it might be today) Thursday october 6 at 1pm Eastern?

I’m inviting you to an unplanned, emergency #ppdspeakeasy call. And while I can’t think of a way for us to roast marshmallows together, we can still sing.

I wish I were a good singer. I can sort of carry a tune, but not exactly gracefully. And it doesn’t matter.

On the previous #ppdchat, the sweet @jenrenpody  mentioned singing as a coping skill. I loved the idea, and am curious and terrified to be trying this. But I’m stretching my comfort zone, and you are welcome to try this too. By the way, you don’t have to sing, you don’t even have to speak to get comfort at the #ppdspeakeasy. But I hope you can be on the call and perhaps even bring yourself to raise your voice to show the PPDemons they got nothing on us.

In honor of every mother or human in pain, especially for those who are having suicidal thoughts sing with me:

You are my sunshine
you are a sunshine
you make me happy
when sky are gray
you never know dear
how much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away.

You are my sunshine
you are a sunshine
I am so sorry you are in pain
you never know dear
how much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away.

You are my sunshine
you are a sunshine
I wish to take your pain away
you never know dear
how much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away.

The call begins at 1:00, I will start singing at 1:10, we will then share and comfort each other like we always do.
Please invite other mothers to join us. If you are new here, please subscribe to get the call details, then check your email.
If you can’t make it this time, our regular monthly call is on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 8:30pm Eastern.

With all the love in the world,

Yael.

P.S. (added half an hour before the call) The beginning of today’s call, the part where I talk and, um, sing (god help us), will be recorded. Sharing won’t be. So  if you can join us today don’t balk when you hear the friendly robot tell you that the call is being recorded, rest assured that your words will not be. Someday soon we will record an entire call, to share with those who can’t or are not ready to join the call. But this is the sort of thing you should be warned about in advance. Would you be up to participating if the call is being recorded? Do let me know in the comments.

By the way, I collected my most important insights into two handy pages. Consider them the best of the kooky jar:
Permission-Based Healing is my philosophy. This I Believe is my credo, a mommy-festo, if you will.
Both were written with the intention to bring comfort for those deep in emotional pain. These ideas guide everything I do, especially the SpeakEasy call. It might be useful for you to read them before the call, if you get a chance.
